ANNA ZEIBIG

Narrative / Hungary

A short story by Jorge Luis Borges titled The Circular Ruins inspired me to create this piece.

It’s a haunting tale about a stranger who arrives at the ancient circular ruins of the God of Fire. He fell asleep there and begins to dream. He dreams of a heart. Then the other organs and the whole body. The God of Fire is instructing this dream. The man is “disturbed by the impression that all this had already happened. . . .”

He realizes that he does not really exist, he was creating himself in a dream consequently, he is only a dream.

My translation of this tale to a piece of jewelry is inspired by the ancient temple Göbekli Tepe in Turkey as a sacred place.

Usually, sacred places are where people are buried. This may remind us of sadness, sorrow, loss. I turn this negative feeling into something positive: creating a relic, a sanctuary for birth where people celebrate life.
