ELVIRA CIBOTTI

Precious? / Argentina

I have always been an avid observer of my surroundings. The impressions and feelings embossed in my mind have made me feel the need to talk about how I see and feel the world around me. Through jewelry, I have found a way to express myself and evoke what really matters to me. In that way, bodies work as the framework that carry my thoughts and spread my message.

In an attempt to make my process more personal a few years ago, I started to look for another material. My first choice was paper. I wanted to re-signify those images and articles that would be discarded, give them a second life.

And that is how recycled paper became my main material. Each layer of paper contributes to give strength, color and shape to the piece. While joining the coats, I can’t stop thinking that, similar to my pieces, humans are more fragile alone than together. And as a community, we can achieve so much more.
