MINQUI

Mixed Materials / Australia

Miss Minqi Gu playfully embraces the act of making through her curious explorations of cultural difference, consumerism, motherhood and identity. Bold and deliberate in colour, simple and suggestive in form and saturated in materiality, her architectural background brings a tryst to the conceptual and a light-hearted engagement with form and composition. Her work defies definition, appearing inconsistent in style and technique. The results are open-ended indefinable wearable objects.

Miss Minqi Gu is a Brisbane based artist and has a masters of architecture from the University of Sydney and has worked in a number of major Australian architectural firms up until 2011. She began making and designing mixed media jewellery in her spare time and now, apart from caring for her son, is focused mainly on her jewellery practice.
